#100 - Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) and 100th Episode Celebration!
Sunday Sep 20, 2020
Sunday Sep 20, 2020
Wow we finally made it episode 100! What better way to celebrate than by discussing the anime our name comes from... Neon Genesis Evangelion!
What can really be said about Eva that hasn't been said already? Who knows, but we're going to give it a shot! The tales of Shinji, Rei, and Asuka have captivated the hearts and minds of audiences for 25 years and counting, with a new film on the horizon that will hopefully be released... eventually.
After reflecting on making it to 100 episodes, we give an overview of the series followed by discussing how we first got into NGE, our favorite characters, the series' major themes, and what we think audiences young and old can get out of NGE in 2020 and beyond.
(Note: Evangelion is an incredibly dense topic and for that reason, we elected to limit our scope to just discussing the 1995 TV series for this episode. Podcasts on the 2 original films and the Rebuild films will follow... one day!)
Thank you so much to everyone who has listened to us, attended our panels, or otherwise supported us over the years. We'll continue striving to make the best podcast we can. Here's to another 100!
Special thanks to everyone who contributed to our "Congratulations" chorus, including an incredibly special cameo from Amanda Winn Lee, director of the ADV & Manga Entertainment Evangelion dubs and the original voice of Rei Ayanami! Huge thanks to Amanda for helping us celebrate.
"Congratulations" Chorus contributors (in order of appearance): @BokuSatchii, @itsbasiltime, Karissa, Ryan, @calva_kun, @The_Sommelier, @hankforeman91, @Toaster_Mike, Anna, Rensei, @thegentlejan, @CrusherJones, Paul, MetaPotato, Cameron, Kush, @Nubbles, @uniquexharmony, @SwooshxBear, @amandawinnlee

#99 - Interview with Anime Scholar Helen McCarthy!
Friday Aug 21, 2020
Friday Aug 21, 2020
We're back again with another interview! For this episode, Sully and Austin had the chance to sit down with noted anime scholar Helen McCarthy!
Helen has been a pioneer in the English-speaking anime community for almost 40 years, having brought anime programming to UK sci-fi conventions, founding and editing Anime UK, and authoring over a dozen books on anime fandom and research. Helen co-authored the monumental Anime Encyclopedia with Jonathan Clements, now in its third edition, written one of the definitive biographies of the God of Manga, Osamu Tezuka, which was published in English, Japanese, and Korean, and had the chance to interview Hayao Miyaki in-person for her book Hayao Miyazaki: Master of Japanese Animation.
Sully and Austin reflect on Helen’s beginnings in anime fandom, what it took to publish the world’s largest English-language anime resource, and the importance of diverse voices in global anime scholarship. Helen also gives a sneak peak into her upcoming book: a collection of scholarly essays on the works of Leiji Matsumoto!

#98 - Interview with BOOMSLANK, Anime lifestyle & apparel brand
Saturday Jul 25, 2020
Saturday Jul 25, 2020
We're finally back after a month+ hiatus. Don't worry, things may have slowed, but they certainly haven't stopped. We're hoping to get back to a more regular release schedule soon.
This week, Tori and Austin interview two brothers behind the anime-inspired apparel and lifestyle brand BOOMSLANK. If you frequent conventions in the United States, chances are high that you've ran into these guys multiple times. Heck, you might be wearing one of their shirts right now!
We discuss their anime origin story, what it's like running a business as Nigerian-Americans in the anime sphere, the convention artist alley grind, how they began working with Crunchyroll, and how David gives back by teaching art classes for kids.
Be sure and check out all their amazing products on their website: https://boomslank.com/

Kotatsu Corner #1 - Cozy on the Mofa
Thursday Apr 23, 2020
Thursday Apr 23, 2020
Welcome to a brand-new sub show on the Third Impact Anime Podcast; Kotatsu Corner!
Kotatsu Corner is a mini-sode series where we take a break from our typical, highly organized episodes and just chat about whatever is on our minds. Naturally, most of the things on our minds are anime, video games, books, movies, and the occasional international pandemic.
We're hoping to do these monthly, or bi-monthly. We'll see how it goes.
In this episode, we discuss coping with COVID-19, cancelled conventions, Animal Crossing, FFVII Remake (which we hadn't played yet at the time), the almighty MOFA, and more!
Please enjoy! Also, this is Tori's debut as an episode editor. Wahoo!
As always, thanks for listening! Please consider subscribing and sharing this episode with a friend.
Please continue to take precautions and stay safe during the currently ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
